Pengurusan Trafik DBKL? Macam Kerja Orang Tak Sekolah

From The Star, 20 Mac 2007.

City Hall's new traffic scheme causes jams at the Jalan Pahang roundabout

A new traffic management scheme implemented by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) caused motorists to be stuck in a two-hour-long traffic jam at the Jalan Pahang roundabout yesterday morning.

One of those caught in the traffic snarl was Redfm deejay Nelson Ng, 25. “Usually it takes me only 15 minutes to get to the office, but today I was caught in the traffic jam for more than 45 minutes,” he said.

He said the traffic jam began from the Grand Season's Hotel in Jalan Pahang all the way to the Jalan Tun Razak/ Jalan Ipoh slip road.

The traffic jam also caused vehicles coming from Jalan Genting Kelang and Jalan Pekeliling and the Jalan Ampang highway heading towards Chow Kit to move in a bumper-to-bumper crawl.

Senseless jam: The scene at 10am in front of the Monorail station in Jalan Pekeliling. Traffic police closed off half the road, preventing motorists from turning right to go to Petaling Jaya.
“We couldn't use the Jalan Ipoh overhead bridge because it was cordoned off, if not the traffic would have been smooth,” he said, adding that the traffic jam was also unusual especially since it was at 12.15pm and the road was less busy during lunchtime.

“ There were several traffic policemen at the roundabout but they could not do anything to ease the jam,” said Nelson.

City Hall, in a statement, said the changes were implemented on Saturday to ease traffic flow in the surrounding areas.

Motorists from Kg Baru heading towards Damai (Jalan Tun Razak bus stop) and Jalan Ipoh now have to use the Jalan Pahang roundabout.

However, motorists from Kg Baru who enter Jalan Tun Razak heading towards Jalan Tun Ismail (PWTC), Jalan Kuching and Jalan Mahameru will not be affected. Those coming from Jalan Pahang heading towards Jalan Tun Ismail (PWTC) and Jalan Kuching to Jalan Mahameru are not allowed to use the Jalan Ipoh overhead bridge at Jalan Tun Razak. They now have to use the slip road at Jalan Tun Razak/ Jalan Ipoh that has been reconstructed.

Ending the misery: Traffic police were forced to open the barriers after 10am along Jalan Pekeliling when the congestion became unbearable.
Traffic flow at Jalan Tun Razak from Jalan Kuching heading towards Kg Baru is also not be affected by the change.

Nelson said the changes had caused an inconvenience to moto-rists using the affected roads.

“On Sunday, motorcyclists were seen removing plastic barricades at one of the affected stretches to allow cars and motorcycles to pass. This shows how inconvenient it is for everyone. This new traffic management scheme is not feasible as a long-term plan,” he added.
